The news was confirmed shortly before the TSI press conference, with Jimmy signing an 18 month extension to his current deal. He’s been the speculation of many throughout the January window, but it’s finally been put to bed. When I first heard the news I was afraid that Jimmy had been offered a new set of terms in line with the recent investment, but Chris Samuelson was keen to intimate that it was the same deal that was offered in December, and that Jimmy only signed it on Tuesday after being convinced of the club and squad’s long term future. Didn’t see that one coming… Hopefully know that the contractual situation is off his mind, he can return to being 50% useful on the pitch. That remains to be seen.

McDermott told the OS:

“I’m delighted that Jimmy has decided to sign a new deal with us. He believes in what we are trying to do here and he obviously feels Reading is the right club for him and that I am the right manager for him. Negotiations have been ongoing for a long time and I am delighted that it has now reached a conclusion with which everyone is happy.”

Good to see you tied down Jimmy.

Up the Royals!
