Sheff Utd Pre-Match Report
By: Ben | April 10th, 2009
First and foremost, as seen previously I was planning on posting a big, anger-venting post on why things have been going down the shitter for us recently. The key-word being planning. Don’t get me wrong, it’s sitting in my Drafts, title and all, but it’s jumbled, nonsensical rambling, nothing worth publishing in it’s current state. So, to start afresh!
In brief, the last 5/6 games have meant Reading have slipped steadily further away from the top two, and the play-off positions have become closer than ever before. It looks like it really could come down the last, nail-biting game of the season, against current 2nd placed Birmingham.
So going into this evening’s game on the back of a 0-0 bore draw with Coventry on Saturday, it’s becoming more evident this last run-in to the end of the season really will make or break our Premiership hopes. With our last 6 games looking like this;
Sheff Utd (H)
Blackpool (A)
Barnsley (H)
Derby (A)
Norwich (A)
Birmingham (H)
One would think that they were easily achievable 3 pointers (bar perhaps Birmingham), but after the current string of events to pass our way, the pundits can never be sure.
So then, tonight! After resting Doyle last weekend, it’s likely the striker will start. As for his counterpart I’m putting money on Kitson, or after his great performance last weekend, Noel Hunt.
Stephen Hunt also returns from injury, but Liam Rosenior will leave the right-back position open after his dismissal. Hopefuls include youngster Julian Kelly.
Sheffield United are on a current high, with 21 points earned out of a possible 30 in their last 10 games. Those included a 3-0 battering of Cardiff, and a 2-1 victory over Birmingham. They’re sitting above us by 3 points, but our game-in-hand would go nicely with a victory today.
So that’s it! I’m off to the game now, full post-match coming soon.
Up the Blues!
